Environmental and Land Use Law Program

The program aims to develop environmental leaders who combine knowledge grounded in law, science, economics, politics and ethics to put sound environmental and land use policies into practice.  The program, run by Director Jon Cannon, joins outstanding legal teaching and scholarship with opportunities for interdisciplinary study and practical training.

Virginia Environmental Law Forum (VELF)
VELF is a student run organization that provides pro bono legal research opportunities with environmental groups and hosts regular speakers’ events on current environmental law and policy issues. 

UVA Environmental Law and Conservation Clinic
The clinic provides a wide variety of opportunities for students to represent and counsel environmental non-profits, citizens’ groups, and community organizations seeking to protect and restore the environment of Virginia and other parts of the country. The clinic is run by Leon Szeptycki, former general counsel of the national environmental organization Trout Unlimited.
