STUDENT NOTES POOL
The Virginia Environmental Law Journal is accepting student submissions from Monday, September 22, 2025, through Monday, October 6, 2025, for publication in the Spring 2026 issue. Our journal accepts pieces relating to environmental law and adjacent topics, including but not limited to, animal law, climate change, and zoning regulations. Please note that these parameters are broad and flexible. If you are unsure if your topic is appropriate for publication in an environmental journal, we strongly encourage you to submit your piece. Novel scholarship on any legal issue affecting the natural world will be thoughtfully considered.
While VELJ does not have a strict length requirement, student notes should be longer than 10,000 words inclusive of footnotes. Shorter pieces may be considered as essays.
Any current law student, including LLMs, may submit scholarship for consideration. While UVA law students are particularly encouraged to submit their work, enrollment at UVA is not required for publication.
Student notes must be submitted by uploading your Note and Author Information Statement to this form by 5:00 pm ET on Monday, October 6, 2025. Your Note must be in .docx format. The file name must be [Note Title]. To preserve confidentiality, there should be no personal identifying information throughout the Note. The title of the Author Information Statement should be [Note Title] Author Information Statement. This document should include your name, phone number, and e-mail address.
Publication decisions will be communicated within a few weeks of the submission deadline. If you have any questions, please contact Submissions Director Katherine Anderson ([email protected]). Please take care to limit topic-specific information in order to preserve confidentiality.
