Jeremy Kemp (‘21) | Editor-in-Chief

Hometown: Sarasota, FL
 
Undergraduate Degree/Major: University of Virginia, Environmental Science // Environmental Thought & Practice
 
Environmental Interests: Public lands; decarbonization / energy regulation; national trails
 
Personal Interests & Involvements at the Law School: Besides working for VELJ, Jeremy also serves as a peer advisor, competes with the extramural moot court team, and is doing research on the National Trails System Act. When he gets to take his student hat off, Jeremy can be found getting outside, playing guitar, cooking, gardening, or planning the next road trip!
 
1L Summer Experience, & Future Plans/ Interests: During his 1L summer, Jeremy worked for the chief counsel of the House Natural Resources Committee, doing a mix of policy and legislative law. This summer he will be working for the Sierra Club Environmental Law Program in D.C. In the future, he plans to practice public interest environmental law—either for the government or an NGO—and specialize either in energy or public lands issues.

Ivy Ziedrich (‘21) | Executive Editor

Environmental Interests: Conservation law and land use regulation

Personal Interests & Involvements at the Law School: Ivy’s interests include cooking, reading, and drinking in scenic locations. 

1L Summer Experience, & Future Plans/ Interests:  Ivy spent her 1L summer as a legal intern for Backcountry.com in Salt Lake City, Utah. This summer she will be working for the D.C. office of Latham and Watkins.

Eric Seifriz (‘22) | Submissions Editor

Undergraduate Degree/ Major: Graduated from UW-Madison
 
Environmental Interests: Conservation/preservation of public lands, environmental federalism, climate polarization and messaging, clean air and water as a constitutional right, intergenerational equity for inheriting a stable climate
 
Personal Interests: Trail running and biking, hiking (shout-out to Shenandoah), following WI sports, attending concerts and sporting events, working with kids, reading, traveling, photography

Involvements at the Law School: Law and Public Service Fellow, Innocence Project Clinic, Founder and President of Sidewalk Law, Service Trip Leader for Public Interest Law Association, Director of Curriculum for Street Law, and of course VELJ!

1L Summer Experience, & Future Plans/ Interests: Worked at the UVA Office of University Counsel during 1L summer. My future plans are to work in public service/policy (within close proximity to nature, of course).

Environmental Interests:  environmental justice, climate change, coastal resilience, wildlife conservation
 
Personal Interests &/or Involvements at the Law School: In addition to VELJ, I've been involved in the Environmental Law Clinic, Virginia Environmental Law Forum, Law and Public Service Program, Extramural Moot Court Team, and Virginia Law Review. Outside of school, my wife (Kate) and I love hiking, kayaking, birding, and, most of all, spending time with our dog, Penny.  
 
1L Summer Experience, & Future Plans/ Interests: I interned at the Legal Aid Justice Center, where I helped clients fight evictions and public benefits terminations. This summer I will be interning at the Southern Environmental Law Center's Charlottesville office. After graduation, I plan to practice public interest environmental law for a nonprofit organization.

Personal Interests &/or Involvements at the Law School: My personal interests are soccer and hiking. At the law school I am involved LALO, UVA Law Ambassadors, and Barristers United. 
 
1L Summer Experience, & Future Plans/ Interests: During my 1L Summer I worked at the International Human Rights Clinic, one case surrounded human rights violations against environmental activists in Honduras. In the future, I will be at a firm in D.C. likely in their environmental strategies and energy practice areas

Environmental Interests: ESG investing, corporate sustainability, and climate change policy
 
Personal Interests &/or Involvements at the Law School: My interests include: obsessive podcast listening, talking to/about my dog, and visiting Charlottesville wineries with friends. At the law school, I am involved with the Domestic Violence Project and the Environmental Law and Community Engagement Clinic. Through the clinic, I worked with the Southern Environmental Law Center's Land & Community team. 
 
1L Summer Experience, & Future Plans/ Interests: During my 1L summer I was a Research Assistant for Professor Michael Livermore. This summer I will be working at a New York firm.
